Co-Chair Scheuer and Commissioner Karen Positan attended a two-day workshop, “Blacks, Whites and Latino/as: Building Cross-Cultural Relationships Through The Hard Stuff,” in 2004, presented by ‘Beyond Diversity.’
One key point gleaned from the workshop was that minorities want and need for white Americans to speak out for them. Another observation that became very clear during one of the exercises is the biases Latinos/as have among themselves as well as concerning their skin color, in terms of placing themselves in society and affiliating themselves with white or dark skinned Americans.
