The facility features a visitor center and New Jersey's first natural history museum, built in 1941.

Its purpose is to interpret the natural and human history of the Watchung Reservation

and to foster an awareness and appreciation of the environment.

Trailside's unique location provides the perfect outdoor classroom to have fun while learning about the environment and the natural world around us.

Naturalists conduct group programs in a safe, enjoyable and educational manner.

Schools - A variety of group programs with current New Jersey core curriculum content standards addressed. Call Trailside for group program brochure and fee schedule.

Scouts - Numerous programs to help meet badge requirements are offered.

Youth/Family - A wide variety of seasonal workshops are available for children from preschool - 6th grade including summer camp opportunities.

Birthday parties - An assortment of programs to choose from for children ages 5 & up.

Adults - A variety of workshops including crafts, nature programs and history lessons in the Watchung Reservation.

Teacher Training Workshops - Trailside Nature and Science Center offers teacher training workshops throughout the year; including, Project WET, Project WILD, Project Learning Tree,
Wild School Sites and Aquatic Wild. Trailside is a licensed provider of teacher education credits.

Reservations for Group Programs

Registration is required for all School, Scout and Birthday party programs at least two weeks in advance.
