The facility features a visitor center and New Jersey's first natural history museum, built in 1941. Its purpose is to interpret the natural and human history of the Watchung Reservation and to foster an awareness and appreciation of the environment.

the Mammals of the
Watchung Reservation,
Birds of the Watchung Reservation,
the Art of Taxidermy and
Fluorescent Minerals.
There is a Discovery Room
for young children, featuring hands-on exhibits and live reptiles.

Trailside's unique location provides the perfect outdoor classroom to have fun while learning about the environment and the natural world around us.

Naturalists conduct group programs in a safe, enjoyable and educational manner.

Schools - A variety of group programs with current New Jersey core curriculum content standards addressed. Call Trailside for group program brochure and fee schedule.

Scouts - Numerous programs to help meet badge requirements are offered.

Youth/Family - A wide variety of seasonal workshops are available for children from preschool - 6th grade including summer camp opportunities.

Birthday parties - assortment of programs to choose from for children ages 5 & up.

Adults - Program topics include nature and human history of the Watchung Reservation.

Reservations for Group Programs

Registration is required for all School, Scout and Birthday party programs at least two weeks in advance.
