The United States Department of Agriculture sponsors this federal program which exists to alleviate hunger throughout the nation by providing economic assistance to low income households in the form of augmented food purchasing power. The program is jointly administered through the New Jersey Division of Family Development and the County of Union. Food Stamp supplements make it possible to improve the health of the recipients by providing an expanded diet with increased nutritional adequacy.
The Union County Division of Social Services issues "Benefits to those individuals and families who qualify for this assistance based on income and resource guidelines. The recipients are issued "Family First" cards (ATM cards) which can be redeemed for food at local grocery stores. |
