Mobile Communications

The Union County Office of Emergency Management accepted delivery of a new Mobile Command Unit. The 37-foot vehicle was delivered in November of 1996 and placed in service January 1, 1997. Since that time, the unit has been used throughout the county at various emergencies and public gatherings.

The interior of the unit houses a comfortable, but practical working environment.

The front half is the communications area.
It has two-way radio capability from VHF lo-band to 800MHz. An on-board computer and fax/copier are available for use. The vehicle has four cellular phone lines and the capability for six land-line telephones as well as a cable TV port for long term operations.

The rear portion of the unit provides a spacious conference room with a pocket door separating this area from the rest of the vehicle.

With it's own entrance and exit, this section provides a private meeting place, or a resting place if needed. No specialty vehicle would be complete without a microwave oven, coffee pot, and a refrigerator for those long-term operations.

The Mobile Communications Unit has a 15KW generator which powers all the equipment on the vehicle. This enables the vehicle to be self sustaining and has the capacity to run continuously for hours.
