MOUNTAINSIDE, NJ – The Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders and the Department of Parks and Community Renewal announce that Watchung Stable in Mountainside will host its annual Used Riding Clothes Sale on Saturday, March 6, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Patrons who have used riding clothes that they would like to sell on consignment are welcome to drop the items off at the Stable daily until February 28, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. All clothes must be clean and in good repair and helmets to be sold must have an attached harness. To ensure the quality of what is being sold, the Stable management reserves the right to reject items which are not in adequate condition for resale or use. All sale prices will be determined by the Stable. “Two-thirds of each item’s sale price will be remitted to the seller and the remaining one-third will go to the Watchung Stable Auxiliary,” said Freeholder Vice Chairwoman Deborah Scanlon, liaison to the Union County Parks & Recreation Advisory Board. “The Auxiliary is the facility’s volunteer organization which is committed exclusively to the care and comfort of the Watchung Stable school horses.” Money for items sold, as well as any unsold items, can be picked-up at the stable office between March 9 (after 2:00 p.m.) and March 13th during normal business hours. After that date, uncollected items may be discarded, and uncollected money will be donated to the Auxiliary’s “SHOW” (School Horses of Watchung) retirement fund. The Stable’s Tack Shop also sells new riding clothes and equipment, including the items needed to fulfill the uniform requirements for the County’s Mounted Troop program. Basic items needed for Troop, which begins on March 19, include helmets, shirts, ties, insignias, crops, jodhpurs and paddock boots. Watchung Stable is currently taking registration for Spring Troop 2010 for children over the age of nine and also for adults. Doors will be open for the clothing sale on Saturday, March 6, from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Watchung Stable is a facility of the Union County Department of Parks and Community Renewal, and is located at 1160 Summit Lane, Mountainside.
