About the Union County Medical Reserve Corps

mrc activation exercise

The Union County Medical Reserve Corps (UC MRC) has more than 200 medical and non-medical professionals who have acted on a desire to volunteer their time and expertise during emergencies. The unit is preparing to provide staffing at Point of Distribution (POD) clinics during a mass immunization/prophylaxis campaign. It’s also currently active in a public health preparedness education program for individuals in schools, churches, and community organizations, instructing them how, what, and when to prepare for a disaster.

The UC MRC is under the supervision of the County Health Officer and the Office of Health Management, an office of the Union County Department of Law and Public Safety. On the national level, the Office of the Surgeon General (OSG) is taking lead responsibility within Health and Human Services to promote and support the development of the Medical Reserve Corps.

Who can join the Medical Reserve Corps?

While the purpose of the MRC is to supplement existing local public health response systems, other community volunteers, such as interpreters, chaplains, office workers and legal advisors, fill vital support roles. The Medical Reserve Corps also needs a broad range of health professionals including, but not limited to:

  • Pharmacists
