Freeholder Chairman Christopher Hudak
Freeholder Chairman Christopher Hudak brings a wealth of governmental experience and non-profit experience to County Government.
Elected in 2011 to a three year term, Hudak had been appointed to the Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders in December 2010 to fill an unexpired term on the Board.
This year marks the Linden resident’s first term as Chairman, and he announced initiatives including the creation of free Wifi in several County locations, and programs addressing public safety, economic development, planning, recreation, and health.
Under his leadership, Union County will become only the second governmental agency in the nation to ask that vendors who wish to sell guns to the County’s law enforcement agencies answer socially responsible questions on gun safety.
Hudak is a strong advocate for public safety shared services programs such as the County Police Dispatch system, which expanded to cover more municipalities under his watch; County Homeland Security services, which has distributed millions in public safety equipment to various municipalities; and the life-saving County EMS service which has filled an important gap in service.
Last year, Hudak served as chairman on the fiscal committee, which worked to cut costs and manage resources more efficiently. Hudak also served as an alternate to the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority and the County’s Open Space Committee, and was the Board’s liaison to the Union County Utilities Authority.
Hudak works for Kean University and is a licensed insurance agent. He previously worked for the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission where he managed one of New Jersey’s six Super DMV Agencies, in Rahway, where he oversaw more than 50 employees. He was responsible for the processing of more than 300,000 yearly transactions and supervised the collection of $10 million in state revenue annually.
Hudak also served as Public Affairs Director for Partnership for a Drug-Free New Jersey for four years and spent several years as a Chief of Staff for the late former Assemblyman and State Senator Joseph S. Suliga.
Chairman Hudak serves as Chairman of the Linden Democratic Committee and is a member of the New Jersey State Democratic Committee and was a delegate to the 2012 Democratic National Convention. He is a member of the Linden Knights of Columbus, a parishioner at St. John’s Church in Clark and a member of the National Eagle Scout Association.
Chairman Hudak has a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Kean University and is a graduate of Rutgers University, where he majored in Political Science. He is a graduate of Roselle Catholic High School. Hudak and his wife Terri, reside in Linden with their daughter Catherine.
