Propane Tank Disposal

Propane Tanks are collected and recycled at each of the County’s Household Hazardous Waste Events. Click here
The County of Union holds Household Special Waste Collection days several times a year and accepts propane tanks at these events. Please check our “Recycling ‘Upcoming Events’ ” section for more information.
Some local propane gas suppliers and retailers will also accept outdated, faulty, or damaged cylinders for recycling (possibly for a nominal fee). Contact local filling stations or retailers for details.
Safety Tips
- Keep the valve tightly closed and plugged with the “POL” left-handed thread plug.
- Store propane gas cylinders outdoors ONLY.
- Always keep cylinders upright and in a secure position when transporting.
- Keep your vehicle well-ventilated when transporting cylinders.
